When you travel to Torrão the lines that were once just part of a horizon, shimmer to life. From afar, one sees a tower, then a water tank, finally the vanishing roofline of a house. As we approach the town, the church tower, the walls, the foliage scaling above the houses and rooftops come into view and reveal this oasis offered to us.
The village of Torrão has narrow streets and can only be described as unique. Surrounded by the vast Alentejo landscape, the squares, the church towers, and the benches allow us to sit and feel the soul of the town. Tracing Torrão’s horizon lines on strips of paper reveal contours that are often admired yet often ignored. This installation is a challenge for visitors and the most attentive observers. There are meters of spacious and confined horizons spread out before our eyes to enjoy.
Fernando Frias Reis appropriates the walls of AQUI and transforms them into a live laboratory. Over the first three days of the exhibition, his artistic expression develops along with the collective of visitors to the making-of and making it through conversations, observations, and experimentation. In the midst of the third day, this artistic expression evolves into the second phase: a hybrid installation of media within the AQUI space.
This drawing laboratory challenges the artist to involve visitors and unite in shared curiosity through simple conversations and media experimentation.
